National Science Day – 2026
Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT)
The Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) is one of the world’s most powerful radio telescopes operating at low radio frequencies. It was built and is operated by the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.
In addition to frontline research, the ORT Observatory conducts various outreach programmes to promote science and technology among the general public, with special emphasis on students.
National Science Day
National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28 February at the Radio Astronomy Centre (RAC).
Grand Science Exhibition – 28 February 2026
Schools and colleges (Arts & Science and Engineering Colleges) are invited to exhibit their best projects. Prizes will be awarded to the best entries in various categories. No participation fee is required.
Project Guidelines
- Projects may be developed on any educational or technical theme, with relevant information sheets.

Competition Levels:
- Level 1: Classes 5–7
- Level 2: Classes 8–10
- Level 3: Classes 11–12
- UG Level: B.Sc., B.E., or B.Tech
- Only one project per level per institution, approved by the Principal/Head.
- Maximum of two students per project.
- Appropriate stalls and electrical points will be provided.
- Projects must be safe and non-hazardous.
- The decision of the judging committee will be final.
Important Note
- Registrations must strictly follow the project guidelines.
- Only one project per level per institution is permitted.
- Registration details must match the project presented.
- Unsafe or misleading entries will be rejected.
Disqualification Clause
- Violation of rules or guidelines.
- Multiple entries from the same institution in the same level.
- Unsafe, plagiarised, or misrepresented projects.
- Any disruption to event proceedings.
Reporting Time & Identification
- Participants must report at the allotted time.
- Late arrivals may not be evaluated.
- Valid institutional ID cards are mandatory.
- Entry allowed only after verification.
